Additional information about the Maldives:

Maldives Maldives Maldives

The Republic of Maldives is an island state in the Indian Ocean. Its name derives from the Hindu word ‘mahal’ (palace) and ‘diva’ (island), hinting at luxury and beauty. The Maldives consists of 1,190 islands, of which 200 are inhabited. As the Maldives are located near the equator, the climate is favourable and mild. The year-round average temperature is from 28 to 30 degrees and the temperature of the water does not drop below 24 degrees. Malé is the nation’s capital city and the major commercial and political centre. It is home to government agencies and the offices of major banks and companies. Hulhulé international airport is located on an island only two kilometers from the city. The city’s main landmark is the Presidential Palace (Theemuge), which no city tour could ever miss. The palace is located in the Orchid Magu Street, in the western part of the main shopping district. The city outskirts are home to lots of small shops and stalls that are open from 6 a.m. till midnight. The most fascinating place in the city is the fish market, easily located by its specific fish odour. Not far from the ‘fishing paradise’ there is a local market where goods from all across the Maldives are available to visitors.

Tourists are mainly attracted by the beaches, theme parks, restaurants, cafes, and tea house. The restaurants offer a rich variety of dishes, ranging from local Asian food to European meals and exquisite international cuisine. Some restaurants open in the morning, some after noon, but all businesses close by 1 a.m. Ferry excursions to the islands are popular: the cost of a daytime sea trip is 250 Rufiyaa, and after midnight 350 Rufiyaa. The ferries deliver passengers to the airport berth at the Boduthakurufaanu embankment. You can rent a motor-boat or a Dhoni boat. However, since motor boats are slow, they are primarily used for diving cruises; tourists prefer to make trips to the islands by seaplane.

Additional information about Phuket, Thailand

Phuket Phuket Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island located in the Indian Ocean. Its length from north to south stretches almost 50 kilometers and from west to east 21 km. From November to March the weather in Phuket is dry and sunny, while from April to November tropical monsoons bring intermittent gushes of wind and rain.

The resorts are mainly concentrated in the western part of the country. Numerous modern hotels serve millions of tourists every year. The sumptuous, picturesque beaches create a unique atmosphere of paradise.

Tourists are offered a multitude of entertainment and cultural highlights, including elephant shows and safari, Oriental dance dramas, orchid parks, Buddhist temples, and monks’ processions around convents. Diving is the top attraction here. The local rivers and seashores are enchanting. The entire coastline is sandy and the water so clear that the sea bottom is visible at a depth of 30 metres. Good humour, pleasant company, and tasty meals are always guaranteed. And there’s more: the exquisite beauty of the underwater world will delight you as never before!
